1. Designated agent

Email is the fastest route. A notice that follows section 2 is handled fastest, because it contains everything we need to act without guessing.

2. What a takedown notice must contain

A notice under 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3) must include all six of the following; if one is missing we will ask for it before we can act:

• your physical or electronic signature, as the copyright owner or a person authorised to act for the owner;
• identification of the copyrighted work you say has been infringed (or a representative list);
• identification of the material you want removed, precise enough for us to find it — the full image URL;
• your contact details: name, address, telephone number and email address;
• a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law;
• a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorised to act on the owner's behalf.

Knowingly misrepresenting that material is infringing can make you liable for damages under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f).

3. What happens next

We review compliant notices expeditiously. If the notice is valid we remove or disable access to the material and notify the account that created it, telling them what was removed and enough about the claim to respond.

4. Counter-notice

If your material was removed and you believe that was a mistake or misidentification, send the designated agent a counter-notice under 17 U.S.C. § 512(g)(3) containing: your physical or electronic signature; identification of the removed material and where it appeared; a statement under penalty of perjury that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake or misidentification; and your name, address, telephone number, plus consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address (or, if outside the United States, for the district where we are located) and acceptance of service of process from the original complainant. We forward the counter-notice to the complainant; unless they tell us within 10 business days that they have filed a court action, we restore the material not fewer than 10 and not more than 14 business days after receiving the counter-notice.

5. Repeat infringers

We end the accounts of users who repeatedly infringe copyright, in appropriate circumstances.
